Forum: GratefulDead Subject: DO NOT MISS - important 1970 updates!

some nice adds to the archive in the last few hours....

we get a very crusty recording from JUNE 24, 1970.... it includes an ALLIGATOR>OTHER ONE arrangement not previously available here. COMPLETISTS ONLY for sure, but hey, this is way more interesting than another version of a show already available -- as things stand today -- this is RARE RARE RARE! THIS JAM IS NOT WIDELY CIRCULATED..... (for good reason perhaps, but still...... cheers!) -- make sure you have the DARK STAR from the second set/late show (argue here.)

and then a nice addition to the already confusing MARCH 21, 1970 set from the capitol theatre -- HERE, we get, Previously Unavailable on the Arhive, a HOT casey jones opener, and another SLEEVELESS DANCIN IN THE STREETS -- AAAND another DEMENTED EASY WIND -- Dancin' is not a 5 star type version -- but THIS RECORDING IS STELLAR -- REALLY! mr & mrs. EASY WIND load on the gravy like you hoped they would.... fine! fine, yes i promise -- a seriously smokin Easy Wind --------

DO NOT MISS this 3/21/70 update -- swell indeedy! indubitably!

(...... who took my color pencils?)

The files for the 6/24/70 late show they put up are incomplete. The older one from the same source tapes is more complete. It contains the NRPS sets, the late show first set acoustic Dead set and the Swing Low encore. It can be found here, you just can't stream it on this link.

yeah, understood.

but, no ALLIGATOR>OTHER ONE in that instance.... it appears for the first time in the version just added.here's the link for those crazy completists that might be interested.

if anything, the legitimacy of this entry is entirely open to debate -- neither setlist or deadlist have alligator>other one included for the 24th. it is included however in deadbase's description for the "early" show fron this date.

Everyone NEEDS 6/24/70!! If you download it, download the COMPLETE files for the late show. The "this just in" links are great for streaming, but grab the files from the link I listed above for the complete fileset. Don't worry, the source tapes are the same source. You don't wanna miss the encores, the acoustic Dead set or the NRPS sets!
The early show cited by HeLives is worth having, but the source tapes are inferior. It seems the Ken & Judy Lee source tapes have not surfaced for this early show.(yet)

This show must have gone on for days! Check out the set list from Deadlists: As HeLives points out, Alligator is also played on the early show, though it is not listed here.

To those who are familiar with the DVD "Festival Express" this is the last show the Dead played before hopping the train in Canada for that tour.

Also this may be the only show I've heard where the Dead play a song twice in the same show. They played Uncle John's Band twice, once in the early show acoustic set and then again as the last song before the encore... Candyman, Attics Of My Life and Friend of The Devil are also played twice. Could this really be from two different days instead on one?

Mid way through the 6/24/70 show and am wreaking havoc on my office. Sound quality is friggin' outstanding for an AUD from this time. The Darkstar reprise out of Attics is just plain silly. Thanks for pointing this out.

OK, this is getting ridiculous. I dare you to listen to the Darkstar>Attics>Darkstar>Sugar Mag>Darkstar>Stephen>China>Rider progression without hurting yourself. Good god this is early 70's Dead at their peak.

how did you find out about recent additions? Sorry if it's a stupid question. I made no effort what so ever to figure this out on my own.

Thanks.
